Waiz has been a long-time supporter of the Community Foundation since its inception in 1991. He served on the organization’s first Board of Directors, and is serving on the board now. He has also served as a member and then chair of the Community Foundation’s Finance Committee. He is scheduled to become the organization’s next Chairman of the Board of Directors in the summer of 2007. Waiz retired from Your Community Bank in December 2005, having worked in the banking industry in Southern Indiana for 33 years. Most of that time was spent as a member of senior management with responsibilities for various divisions and departments such as Trust and Investments, Legal, Compliance and Credit, and Retail and Branch Banking. Waiz’s volunteer activities include serving on the Boards of Metro United Way of Clark County as the past President of the Board of Directors and past annual campaign chair. He also has served several terms as Chairman of the Board of Bridgepointe Services and Goodwill Industries of Southern Indiana Inc. He is a past President of the Board of the Floyd Memorial Hospital Foundation, and formerly served as Chairman of the Board of the Southern Indiana Chamber of Commerce (now One Southern Indiana). He is currently serving on the Clark County Community Solutions Committee of Metro United Way. Waiz has a law degree from the University of Louisville Brandeis School of Law.

Jim Wathen Asset Development Officer jwathen@cfsouthernindiana.com
Jim Wathen is the asset development officer for the Community Foundation of Southern Indiana. He most recently served as the director of gift planning for the Archdiocese of Indianapolis. During his four years with the Archdiocese, Wathen helped the Catholic Community Foundation Inc. increase its assets from $90 million to $160 million. His responsibilities included meeting with current and future donors and help structure their gifts in a way that benefits both the donor and the organization. For 20 years prior to his service for the Archdiocese, Wathen was the Owner and President of Wathen Financial Services Inc., an insurance and investment advisory business that he started in Floyds Knobs in 1982. During his 20 years in the business, he built a strong group of clientele, including working with young professionals to high net worth individuals looking for sophisticated financial plans.

Melany Wessels Finance Officer mwessels@cfsouthernindiana.com
Melany Wessels serves the Community Foundation of Southern Indiana as Finance Officer. Previously, Melany served in areas of progressive responsibility at McCauley Nicolas and Co. LLC in Jeffersonville, beginning as a staff accountant in 1998, graduating to senior accountant in 2002 and to supervisor in July 2006. Wessels is a December 1997 graduate of Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Accounting with Honors. She also completed Dale Carnegie Training in March 2002. She is a Certified Public Accountant licensed to practice in both Kentucky and Indiana. She is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants, Kentucky Society of Certified Public Accountants, Indiana CPA Society, Actors Theatre Generation One Board, and serves as the treasurer of Jeffersonville Main Street Inc.

Melissa Weissinger Program Officer mweissinger@cfsouthernindiana.com
Melissa Weissinger is the Community Foundation of Southern Indiana’s program officer. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology from Indiana University Southeast. After graduating from IUS, Melissa was the Advancement Office Administrator for The de Paul School in Louisville. Melissa's job duties include administering grants and scholarships for the Foundation, representing the foundation in community collaborations and organizing the annual youth and adult volunteer recognition events. She also serves as the coordinator of the Foundation’s Youth Philanthropy Councils. Melissa had previously served as an intern for the Community Foundation through Indiana University Southeast.

Alice Miles Multicultural Outreach Specialist alicemiles@mecier.com
Alice Miles is the Multicultural Outreach Specialist for the Community Foundation of Southern Indiana. Miles’ job is to reach out to multicultural and diverse communities to develop relationships and build bridges to find ways to bring more individuals and communities to the Foundation. Miles has a Bachelor’s degree from Spalding University in nursing. She has worked at Jewish Hospital, Providence Hospital in El Paso, Texas, and Floyd Memorial Hospital in New Albany. The majority of her career was spent working in the New Albany-Floyd County Consolidated School Corp., as a school nurse and also as Health Services Coordinator. Miles’ community involvement is extensive. She has served on the Goodwill Industries Advisory Board, American Cancer Society Board, Floyd County Public Health Board, Chair of Booth Judging Committee for Harvest Homecoming, Friends of Division Street School Board, President of Altrusa International, and on the advisory board of the Women’s Foundation of Southern Indiana. Miles’ position is funded by a grant from the Indianapolis-based Lilly Endowment Inc.

Linda Abbott is the administrative assistant to the Community Foundation of Southern Indiana. Previously, she served as an executive associate for the Southern Indiana Economic Development Council from April 1998 until July 2006 when the organization became part of the newly formed One Southern Indiana, the chamber of commerce and economic development organization for Clark and Floyd counties. Linda served as economic development coordinator for One Southern Indiana until December 2007. Prior to her work for the SIEDC, she was employed by PNC Bank for 15 years in several capacities.

Margaret is the administrative assistant for the Community Foundation. She retired from Brown & Williamson Tobacco Corp. after 25 years, having worked in various capacities. Margaret's volunteer activities include Holy Family Catholic School and Church, New Albany Deanery Soccer Program, St. Xavier High School and Heaven's Eyes. Margaret is responsible for administrative duties for the Community Foundation's programs, scholarships, Youth Philanthropy Councils and asset development programs.
