Dr. Rita Hudson Shourds – Honoring a Loved One

Think of the community years from now. How will education influence our children’s children? What future do you imagine in our region?

Dr. Rita Hudson Shourds knew exactly the future her mother imagined when she established the Jean Sekora Hudson Educational Scholarship for Women. It is a permanent endowment fund that provides scholarship assistance for females graduating from Springs Valley High School in French Lick, Indiana. This year, and every year, through the fund established by Dr. Shourds, her mother will influence the lives of young women as they work to complete the next chapter of their education.

Dr. Shourds states, “It was so easy to partner with the Community Foundation of Southern Indiana to honor my mother and her values by setting up a scholarship fund that will last for generations and impact the lives of so many. My mother would have been so happy to know her legacy will live on through this fund and that she is helping shape the future of our region.”
